The next quarterly hike and meeting of the Mason-Dixon Trail System will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2017. The hike itself will take place within the Principio Business Park Area of Cecil County, MD.
We will meet at:
Perryville Branch Librarypromptly at 9:00AM. We will then shuttle some cars to the beginning and the end of this hike. The hike distance is about 3 miles but there will be some 'exploring' along the way. The work hike will consist of a walk through the Principio Business Park between Forge Court and Belvedere Road. In addition to walking through the currently blazed route, which is yellow on the image above, we will explore the two areas circled in white to consider minor changes in the current route. The plan is to drop cars off at the west end (Logistics WA) and shuttle everyone to the east end (Forge CT) and walk east to west. Tim is open to alternatives and suggestions to anything being proposed here.
In the left side circled area, Tim wants to explore and GPS between the red line and the tracks to see if we can move the trail there. The red line should be the CSX ROW boundary and in Tim's October 11, 2016 phone conversation with Gary Stewart he said he wanted us to move the trail inside the CSX ROW. The red line is from the 2004 Stewart Properties sketch plan. Pete McLaughlin georeferenced the sketch plan and then created a GPX file from that.
Tim will have the GPX file that Pete created loaded on his GPS to try to determine when we are between that and the CSX tracks. It would help if we had more than one GPS, then two or more people could line up on the CSX ROW boundary and others could explore, clear and flag a route between the boundary and the tracks. Anyone interested in bringing a GPS should contact Tim so that you can discuss how to convert the GPX file into a route that they you follow on the work hike.
We will eat lunch after the hike and then return to the library. Our quarterly meeting will be from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at the library meeting room.
Please wear adequate winter clothing, sturdy hiking shoes and be sure to bring water, snacks and a lunch. This will be a work hike so please bring bring work gloves and laupers. In the event of inclement weather we may cancel or postpone this hike/meeting so watch this space for further announcements.
Mark your calendars now to attend our next quarterly hike and meeting. All are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please Contact Us.
