Got Any Mason-Dixon Trail .gpx Files?

< Back

The Mason-Dixon Trail System is moving into the digital maps realm. Earlier this year we established a partnership with avenzamaps.com. We have been experimenting with uploading free digital .pdf maps of sections of the Mason-Dixon Trail. These maps are available for download. With the PDF Maps app (available at the App Store or Google Play) one can view selected maps of the M-DT on one's smartphone and know exactly where you are on that map. Once the app is installed on your smart phone search Mason-Dixon Trail, Inc. to find our maps. Our eventual goal is to use this platform to produce the first generation of high quality digital maps of the entire Mason-Dixon Trail. These will be 'pay maps'. In other words, we will charge a nominal fee for them. However, this income will go to support the efforts of this non-profit organization to maintain and improve the Mason-Dixon Trail.

We also recently entered into a partnership with hikingproject.com, which is owned by REI. This site allows anyone to upload .gpx files of various trails that can be shared with other users for free. .gpx files are produced as the output of distances traveled on a GPS device. Our club page is a work in progress but offers some neat features for users. Our club page on this site will eventually offer free digital maps of sections of the M-DT as well as information about the organization and the trail itself.

As a result of these two collaborations we are looking for .gpx files that were recorded along the Mason-Dixon Trail. These files could be a short day hike or a long distance hike. They could be along a road or on dirt trail. These files would be utilized for either of the above projects. If you are interested in helping us in this area by offering technical expertise, joining our organization and/or joining our maps committee, let us know. Please consider helping the club in this endeavor. If you have any .gpx files that you would like to contribute or would like to help us, please Contact Us. Thanks.
